Blue Bubbles Blurred

Carolyn Roberts: A Top Political Candidate

Our struggle is real, but our change can be a reality.

I have been through it all. I am going through it all. I am a single mother. I am disabled. I am also a fighter. I have been a no named mover and shaker in my community since I was a teenager. I started my plight of to help people at the young age of 14. Even at that young age I realized that sometimes even the smallest things can make a difference in someone's life. I've worked with domestic violence victims mostly women and children of abuse. I have been a victim of domestic violence myself. I've struggled to take care of my child. I've been homeless and at times I have even felt helpless. I have marched for justice. I have fought and marched for those that were victims of gang and gun violence in my own family and, also for those that have been victims of gun, gang, and unjustified police violence all over California and beyond.  I have organized donation events in urban and rural communities for victims of natural disasters brought on by our growing climate change crisis all over our country. I have done this all under the radar because, When you truly care about people, truly care about the country, truly care about your community, It doesn't matter if you've ever ran for office or if people know your name.  What matters is do you care enough to do the hard work that it takes to get the job done. Do you care enough to put boots to the ground and make the changes that really matter to everyday people. When you care your name doesn't matter getting recognition doesn't matter.  One thing that I have  realized is in order to make a real difference a bigger difference and real change. I need real people to stand. Real people who are tired of not being able to live the American dream we were promised. People who are tired of not being able to get their medication. People who are tired of working just to pay bills. People who can't truly live because they're afraid of their own community, and they're afraid of the police who have sworn to serve and protect.  All I can say is if you relate to anything I have said. If you want a living wage. If you want to walk around your neighborhood safely. If you want the opportunity to own a home. If you want to be heard. Stand with me in this race and we can walk across the finish line together.  As the great John Lewis said let's get into some "GOOD TROUBLE!!!"

For a Better Future

This particular issue should have never been one to begin with. The hurt the pain the anger and sheer sadness, Should have never had to befall anyone. I'm tired of the my condolences, the I'm sorry for your loss. I'm tired of the children being afraid to go to school or to play outside. I'm tired of someone minding their own business in their own home cooking dinner or watching TV just to be gunned down. I'm tired of seeing families like mine grieving from an unimaginable yet avoidable loss.           The politicians have had years to fix this crisis. They have had more heart for big banks and billionaires than the mourning families of lost loved ones. I'm not going to say it's time for things to change. I'm going to say it should have never been in the first place and it ends now! I have a plan to create a community and law enforcement task force. I don't want it to just be in our most hard hit cities. I would like for this to be a statewide venture.
Local government officials should be communicating weekly making sure those bad actors aren't just moving from one city to another just to wreak more havoc on people that just want to live. This task force would focus on creating more Gang and Street Life prevention programs.  Knowing that there's a difference between being a Gang member and a Street Hustler or a Grinder, is important because not everyone should be put into the same category.
Some people are just attracted to what the streets have to offer. We have to take the streets on with better alternatives. The task force would work with the California department of Education in order to offer the most in demand vocational job training courses. We would work with large and small businesses alike in order to make sure that upon completion of these courses there would be a job waiting for the individuals who participate.
If these individuals have records prior to enrolling in the programs the task force would also have separate entities in order to work with them on expungement and community service fulfilment opportunities.  We want to help those who want to try to clear their records and start over. We can offer help via community service or other methods such as unpaid internships which will help businesses and can be used to build skill sets and self-esteem.
Whatever ideas  we as a community and as a state can come up with so that we can offer a fresh start.   As for the legal portion of this task force the law enforcement agencies would receive training on how to be aware of hot spots around the city and work closely with community leaders ,residence and former Gang members to address the concerns about the safety of their neighborhoods. The task forces ultimate goal is to reclaim our communities. The individuals who are commiting these acts of heinous violence will not be tolerated.
The task force will launch an all out guns and illegal drug hunt. The streets are full of illegal guns and drugs. Taking as many of them off the streets as possible will save lives but we have to get to the source of where they're coming from to begin with. If individuals are willing to cooperate those efforts will  allow for a potential reduce sentence for being in possession of an unregistered weapon. However if that weapon is connected to a crime that individual will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The difference between this task force and others is that members of the community who have been trying to fix this problem on their own by creating programs will be working in conjunction with correctional officers law enforcement and there will be an oversight committee so that we don't have excessive force situations. We can lower the rate of unjustified police shootings. If a suspect is running away or not an immediate threat to anyone then there's no need for that suspect to be killed.
Though the committee will not have full authority over law enforcement the oversight committee of individuals in each community will evaluate each case and complaint and recommend discipline in accordance to the law.  There's a lot of components to this task force that I have thought of but I would like ideas from members of the most hard-hit cities as they have been victims themselves either by losing family  members and friends or just being hostages their homes.

Retired law enforcement including but not limited to former FBI, Defense and prosecutorial attorneys, correctional officers and juvenile detention personnel will be included in this committee so that we will have an array of voversight from as many prospectives as possible.

Affordable Education

Key Policy

I have been worried about college since the day my son was born. I worked 3 jobs to make sure he had everything he needed to excel. Now 17 years later he plays 22 instruments and counting, he's an honor roll student and so socially conscious. Like so many others out there he would be an asset for any University, But because of the cost of higher education so many have had to put their dreams aside.
The world is missing out on what could be the best doctors, scientist, engineers, and so many other  wonderful contributors to society. We can no longer sit by and allow these talented young minds to lye by the wayside simply because they cannot afford higher education we're missing out just as much as they are. My plan is to work with community colleges and universities in the state of California to offer some type of subsidies or incentives for them to increase their scholarship programs. Such as if a student takes 2 years at a community college they can receive admittance to a four-year University with that credit in hand and possibly only paying 25% of the universities cost versus the full 100%.
If there's a way that the state could cover the remaining 25% it would substantially decreased the amount of debt for students looking to go straight into a 4-year college. Yes it's a compromise on their behalf but they will still come out with the same degree in the same great education. Not just the state of California would benefit from this because what these students go on to be can benefit the world with new challenges arising such as pandemics and climate change issues things that we haven't seen in hundreds of years or if ever in our lifetimes are arising and we need new minds with fresh ideas to get into the fields of science engineering and technology and so many others.
To be able to solve these problems or even prevent them before they become said problem. My affordable education program lies deeper than that. By helping parents prepare starting from birth. In a lot of countries when a child is born a certain amount of money is set aside for their college education. The more we educate parents on what the cost of college can be when their child turns 18 or graduates high school the more we can help them prepare for those times. We can also increase the labor market by offering college students more flexible schedules and working with companies to do just that. if a student has more opportunities to find an internship in the early stages of their career choices it can help them be more prepared for their collegiate experience therefore  giving them a better chance of success.

The Environment

The Stakes are High!!

There's no time for niceties and political correctness. There's no time to sugarcoat the velocity in which this eminant danger is upon us. We've had record temperatures in the year of 2020 we've had rapidly growing fires and other climate related anomalies in the state of California and are surrounding states. Not to mention the atrocious storms that continue to batter our southern coastlines. It is time for immediate action. If elected as Governor I will been working on several plans that will not only help mitigate and slow down the effects of climate change in the state of California, but to also provide jobs and housing while doing so. This is not a game it's not a joke if we plan to leave something for our children and their children's children we must act now. In conjunction with the federal government City and other state officials we can put together a comprehensive plan that will express the severity of the situation. People choose not to listen and the problem is worsening we must meet people where they are in order for change to be enacted in regards to this crisis.

Jobs

For a Better Future

This particular issue has been increasingly gaining coverage all over the world. Why exactly? It is an issue that needs to be addressed, because we have so many people who still believe in systemic racism. We have so many people who have done their time and now can't be hired because they have a felony.  If that wasn't enough we now have a pandemic running rampant throughout the world affecting people of color at an alarming rate. With the number of violent and petty crimes on the rise some I have witnessed with my own eyes. I've experienced it with members of my own family people that used to be my friends who are now doing life in prison. Some truly tried to go down the right road but didn't have the right resources. I believe that mental health plays a large part as well, because some people if they only had access to medications that they need they would be able to hold down a steady job. what I'm not going to do is make excuses for perfectly able bodied mentally stable people.
There's no reason to commit heinous crimes or to have blatant disrespect for the rule of law. I'm simply stating that there are certain circumstances where this has happened more often than not. There have been plenty of people who have fallen victim to the system by no fault of their own. With that being said that means that there are many areas that need to be addressed to give people a chance at having a good life and being productive citizens. To give people a real chance at rehabilitation while behind bars there aren't many programs that allow for people to truly be rehabilitated. With the privatization of prisons It doesn't matter if rehabilitation is in their program initiatives or not they make more money the more bodies they have locked in cells.
We also have to do something with the school system training our children to be able to join the workforce straight out of school
We used to have programs and classes that would give students who either could not afford to go to college or chose not to go to college a better chance of being able to join the workforce we took out woodshop we took out a lot of the mechanic classes we took out a lot of the vocational classes.
Classes such as those I listed would have allowed kids to go straight into the workforce ry out of high school and be able to make a decent living wage. These programs need to be brought back, fresh ideas need to be introduced and we have to be creative in our job production.
We must do something to create jobs for all walks of life. Our government needs to do more though there has been progress it has not been enough we need people to start thinking out of the box we need people to start listening to what's needed out there in the real world. What kind of jobs do we need. Where they're needed the most. We need jobs in today's most demanding fields.

Living wage and generational wealth

Key Policy

I've had the issue of working 3 jobs to take care of one child. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to take care of multiple children on minimum wage. To pay rent to pay bills, to buy food, school supplies, school clothes, extracurricular activities.   The problems that we face with not making a living wage is not just those that I listed above. It's the fact that you have to save just to be able to have a movie night with your children. You have to save just to be able to take them to an amusement park, sometimes for months, sometimes for years.
The sacrifices you make working day in and day out missing out on quality time not just with your children, but with your family, spouses, and friends. Making a living wage in the United States means to me that you should be able to do all of these things without having to worry about the lights being cut off. You shouldn't have to make the decision between your medication, food or rent you should be able to afford to buy a home.
You should be able to live you should be able to have something to leave to your children and family. If you wanted to start a business you should be able to do so. Making a living wage in the United States should mean just that, that you're allowed to live and enjoy life.

Unity

For a Better Future

I had to learn that teamwork makes the dream work and if we stand for nothing we fall for anything. In both of those sayings they have one important thing in common. Teamwork means US, if WE stand for nothing WE, will fall for anything again it means all of US. I don't know why the world has been so divided. I don't know why politics have to be so divided. I'm sure WE will find out when WE win this race. One thing I do know is that if WE as a people start to push for change. If WE as a people continue to work together. If WE as a people not black, not white, not brown, Just people working together we can do anything. We can be the example for current and future generations.

Health Care

Key Policy

I am truly passionate about this issue, as it is one that impacts so many people all over the world. I  hold this issue close to my heart, working day in and day out to find ways to improve the cause. With my son suffering from diabetes a condition one that plagues so many people here in California and all over the country. This is a subject that I focus on emensly because of the costs medications and lack of education and preventive care so many die or lose limbs, eyesight and mobility. I aim to maintain balance within the political system, and will keep pushing until the correct balance is reached. So that people who are underinsured or completely uninsured will be able to take advantage of programs that we have as well as overhauling our current programs such as medical, denti-cal and prescription drug prices.
